Pabna Cyber Chronicle May-June 2k

Hello Everyone,

The summer heat is amazing. And so is the diverse gift from the nature.Mango is regarded as the king of fruits at least in this part of the world. Struggling the hardships of poverty  throughout the year, our people can taste this gift of the nature at this time and especially this year, in spite of some devastating Nor-Wester (tornado formed on land, coming from north-west direction occur in mid April-May evening time, kalboishakhi in Bangla), mango is produced abundantly and comparatively cheap, to say.

From this month we are going to float the Flagship of the Pabna on the net-Pabna dot Net, at her new and own address. Although we have been working since 1997 to promote the history, culture, literature and vision of the Pabnites on the Net, getting permanent address will to just write

                          http://www.pabna.net

Or in a smart browser just  www.pabna.net is sufficient. As you can guess this will take sometime, presumably 3-4 weeks to make this site fully activated. Meanwhile the other existing sites will act as mirror sites in future.

For keeping Pabna Dot Net more interesting, interactive, attractive and lively we need your very cooperation. Please feel free to send your comments, querries or even nostalgic thoughts. We are here at the home soil to response.

On the first page just in the bottom, you can leave your email address. Whenever the Pabna Dot Net is changed, you will be informed (Courtesy of Mind it). You will be automatically in touch with us always. Your email address will not be used for any other purpose, we promise.

The bridge near the Bangla Bazaar, connecting the Pabna-Shelidah is under construction. It can be mentioned that the former one was damaged under the 1998 flood.passerbys take the by-way under the bridge, as the river is not yet full.

Pink Radhachura (binomial nomenclature?) flowers are blossomed in the backyard of he old Banamali Technical.Violet Jarul (Lagerstroemia speciosa) flowers and orange-red krishnachura(Delonix regia) are adding new colours on the horizon. A number of Jarul trees with flowers are seen behind the Pabna Station club. Krishnachura are seen here and there, but about five on the entrance of the Degree College (Back part of Edward Univ. College) in front of the English department standing in marching position, welcoming the young generation to the University College.

Monsoon rain will soon nourish the nature and we will be gifted with flowers like Lotus, water lilly, keya,Aparazita etc.We will be writing about them soon.

Mangos are available in the market. And Litchis too. This year Pabna Bazaar is filled with the litchis of good quality, popularly known as Bombay Litchis(in Bangla Bombay is a popular word, has lot of meaning, here it  means big size). The main supply comes from the Babu's garden near Aaowtapara(and not from Bombay!).Tinned Thai litchies are sold in the market. It will be commecially successful if we could process litchis and export them to the countries like Thailand, isn't it?

Days are now hot, humid although not sunny. Due to the formation of depression in the Bay of Bengal thick clouds fill the horizon. Peasants are seen drying up the rice sometimes just beside the road.

Straws are piled in stacks for the feeding of livestocks in the coming monsoon. Sparrows are seen eating grains in the crops fields and roadside also which the peasants prefers for drying up paddy. The bumper production of Boro rice is contributing the increase of GNP on one hand, the drastic decrease of rice price on other hand.

Folk are seen flying kites in the evening time. Youngsters prefer small handmade kites (chil-e kite). Police Parade ground becomes a center for kite flying in the evening. Big kites like Dhaush (it is a Bangla word means very big) and Kuairee (ku-aii-ree).Even folk are seen choosing roadside for this purpose. But flying kites beside the Highways like Pabna-by-pass may cause fatal accident.

The renovation work of the Anukul Asram is going on. The two domes are going to get new texture, a bit different from the original.

Due to the countrywide ongoing conflict between the Cable operators and the Satellite Channel owners since middle of March, the paid channels like STAR MOVIES, STAR PLUS, STAR WORLD, National Geographic, ESPN are not shown at present here.
