Dried jute plant(pathkhori in Bangla) is a common means of fuel in the coutryside of  Bangladesh.This year the peasants in this reagion as well as all over Bangladesh have produced  more jute than previsous years with a hope that Government will procure jute for producing eco friendly jute bags as polythene bag is banned recently.But to their great dismay the jute price has fallen recetnly.They are not even even getting their investment back.

 
A>>Introductory words

 Monsoon this year was longer than anticipated and the average rainfall is  much higher  which render the worsening  the flood in Sujanagar,Bera and Pabna Sadar thana.However the under ground-water level has increased significantly which is essential for coming dry season cultivation.

 

 

Dolon Champa(Hedychium coronarium) or literally Lolling Champa  is a nocternal flower,pure white of course.Fragrance is dense and thick and tantalizing.Flower of monsoon.

 
Soon the flood water will recede and the fishermen will start catching fish with net fixed on bamboo poles,very common scene of autmn countryside Bangladesh.

*The Dhaka-Pabna-Ishurdi bus fair has been increased 20 BDT from the 3rd August.And the new fair is 160BDT.The increase in fair is Due to the increased toll at Jamuna bridge. 

*Power failure and loadshedding have again become regular and cause of irritation in hot humid days.Power board seems to let this go unnoticed.

*The first official dengue patient in Pabna this year was diagnosed in Pabna General Hospital on the 8th August. Monirul Islam(23) of Char Bhabanipur of Sujanagar was admitted to a special room in medicine ward.People in the town are panicked about the spreading of the dengue.Before this a dengue patient was found in Tarash,Sirajganj.

*On the 12th August, Rafia Sultana Mitu received a civic reception at the Rashid hall by the local District Council.She is the only student from Pabna district  who got A+ grade in the Secondary School Certificate Examination  in 2002.

The shrine of Fakhir Lalan Shah The shrine of baul fakhir Lalan Shah is situated at Kumakhali,Kushtia.
For more than hundred years it has been a gathering centre for baul musicians since 1890.

The calm and quite sorroundings,perfect for meditation and for spiritual music will soon change-a peculiar shaped auditorium,proposed high rise building for Lalan academy will  make it difficult to find this picturesque shrine in the jungle of concrete.

 

On the 9th August the poets and writers of Pabna,Ishurdi,Rajshhahi,Bogura,Kushtia,Faridpur attended the writer's convention and  the 4th anniversary  of the periodical ARUNIMA.The convention and the ceremony was held in the Sugarcane Research Institute aduditorium at Ishurdi.

On the 15th August,2002 , from Pabna dot net we visited Asif at his Kacharipara residence.
We greeted him on behalf of this website with fresh Rajonigandha 
and rose and of course famous paera and rashokadam.,and took a photo interview.

Obituary Notes:

*Advocate Abdul Aziz Biswas(57),Pabna advocate expired in his Char Dulai residence.

*Mr.Hemanta Biswas(65),florist and hoticulturist expired after suffering from liver cancer on the 2nd August,2002.Mr. Biswas migrated  from Pirojpur in 1986 and started selling flower in the Pabna New Market.He recently opened a nursery named Uttar Banga Nursery in the town.

*Pabna Zilla school retired teacher Mr.Ramzan Ali passed away on the 13th July,2002.He was suffering from geriatic complicay.

*Advocate Shafiqul Islam Chand(55),died of heart failure on the 27th June 2002.He was an active member of Pabna drama Circle.
