Jute fibre market at Hadjeer Haht.On the 7th Sept,we visited HH.Jute fibre played once a key role in our economy.But plastic and polythene have substituted jute.However as Jute is natural and environment friendly,may be one day it will be again used widely

Transition from monsoon to autumn this year has been markedly silent. Thick monsoon cloud followed by heavy downpour is almost a regular phenomenon still in October.River water in Jamuna and Padma has finally been on recede and shoals(Char in Bangla) are becoming visible.However the white Kash and Shefali flowers appear to welcoming the victorious democracy in Bangladesh.

Winter vegetables are becoming available in the market.Caully flower(phul kopi in bangla),tomato,bringel,bean,new potato,pumpkin and other green vegetables are available,though not become cheap yet.But rice price is in rise.There was an increase in price for BDT 2/kg in the first week of Oct.

Different social and cultural activities seemed to be pused due to the great national event,therefore news items in this issue is less than normal.

Although there were reports on violance in four centers in Pabna district,the election was free and fair in the present context of Bangladesh

*Mr.Motiur Rahman Nizami,the recently elected MP from Pabna-1,has been given the portfolio of agriculture ministry.Till now he is the only minister from this district. 11.10.2001

*Institute of Engineers Bangladesh,Pabna sub-center, held their meeting on the 10th Oct. at Water board rest house.The oncoming annual election of IEB was discussed here.

*On the 5th October,Friday,the BNP and the 4 party coalition made a gratitude prayer.

*A milad mahfil for the prosperity of Bangladesh was held in a mosque in Mosappa in Abu Dhabi on the 5th October.The milad was arranged by the pabnite Engr.Hashem Parvez.(report by SM Alam)

Obituary Notes:

* Mr.Barin Majumder,an exponent in classical music in Bangladesh, expired on the 3rd.October,2001 at Dhaka.In the early sixties, he established a college of music in Dhaka.Mr.Majumdar left behind him two sons-famous pantomime Partha Praqtim Majumder,now residing in Paris,and band musician Bappa Majumder.

Mr.Barin Majumder lost his only daughter in the War of Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971.
He hailed from the famous Majumder family of Radhanagar,Pabna.His ancestor,Profulla Majumder established Radhanagar Majumder Academy in 1899.

*Politician Mr.Abdur Rauf Abed,former president of Pabna Zilla BNP expired on the 3rd October,2001.
