Pabna Cyber Chronicle March 2000(second Half)
Dear Cyber Visitor,
Annual Eid-ul-adjha was celebrated, as it ought to be, while some extra dimensions made this Holy festival more colorful. Already from the Eid-eve, the whole town arouse to an exuberant mood. The last bus from Dhaka was full of homebound people even the ticket price was no less than 200Tk(140Tk.in general). Different clubs arranged illumination of their club-premise even bridges over the Ichamati were illuminated with colorful decorative lights. The Kacharipara community club deserves the appraisal for decoration of their bridge.
The largest congregation took place at Arifpur.Among the other Police Parade Ground,Kalabagan,Sadhupara Primary School ground, Radhanagar Eidgah can be named. As you already know from different Bangla Internet dailies, that this year the Pabnites have for the first time offered Rajastani-camels. At least three camels were offered in the municipal area. The day after the Eid, the camels were marched around all-important lanes of the town-followed by a procession of child enthusiasts, and on the third day of Eid festival it was concluded. Hopefully in future Camels may be a part of our fauna as the climate in the Northern Bengal suits well for this meek creature.
Eid Mela was arranged in Sreepur at Dogachi(circa 15-16 km from Pabna towards Sujanagar) for three days after Eid.Actually it was a sort of Meena Bazaar in the countryside comprising different stalls, competitions etc.

Though the river Ichamati is almost dried and left un-excavated in the town but just in the outskirt, near the Edward Univ.College it is excavated and full of water in this dry and sunny Chaitra (Chaitra is the last month of Bangla year) month. Just looking on her clean and calm water with ripples near Ataikula (circa 26km from Pabna towards Nagarbari) amidst the green lashes of rice field (actually paddy field) fills the mind with tranquility.
While the nature is preparing herself to welcome the new year (on the 14th April), the Hindu community has celebrated their Ras-Purnima based on the eternal love story of Radha-Krishna.Local Anukul Ashram in Hemayetpur arranged programme on this day in their Temple premise. The 102nd birthday of Shree Anukul C Thakur was also celebrated between 21-23 March. His followers from all over the country gathered in the temple.

The Independence Day (26th March)
A weeklong celebration in honor of our glorious War of Liberation started from 23rd by flag hoisting ceremony in front of the Banamali Hall in remembrance of the gallant Pabnites on the same day in 1971,when our red-green flag was flown on the newly declared independent soil of Pabna.
The Zero hour arrival was honored by 21 Gun salutes at Pabna Police Parade Ground. Precisely at sunrise common people gathered to submit floral wreaths at Durjoy Pabna, later on painting competitions, swimming, volleyball, rifle-shooting competitions in stadium took place
The War of Liberation related Photography Exhibition was arranged at Durjoy Pabna Premise. Besides the official march past and acrobatics events in the stadium different primary and high schools Clubs and Organs arranged special cultural and sports events on their playground. But Simultaneous programmes at different places has made a visitor difficult to participate everywhere. Although number of cultural forums and clubs has their programmes spread till 29th,it's time for proper co-ordination of different programmes as the Independence Day is becoming more and more meaningful and appealing among the new generation of Pabnites.

Cuckoos are seen abundantly, which might delight Great poet Wordsworth. Green parrots and pet pigeons are seen sometimes flying in flock low over the harvested crop fields. The whole landscape seems to be ornamented with newly grown green leaves. The red Parijaat (Erythrina variegata), in bangla Madar, has blossomed here and there in the green nature but somewhere beside the Pabna bypass road (near Shalgaria) are in particular eye-catching. Even the country roadsides are filled with Akond and Ghetu-phul, a very natural scene indeed.
For the first time the Young Pabnites have got their own monthly Bangla Scientific & Technical Magazine from this month named Projuktir Suurjo. It's well edited and neatly designed while the Price is Taka 5 or 10 cents which does not exceed the budget of a school going girl/boy.
Days are becoming longer. Umbrella and sunglass have again become an utmost item to take with while going outside. Average daytime conditions here in Pabna are temp:30-34deg Cel. Humidity:45-50% Pressure:around 1040mbar.Weary rickshawpullars are seen to take short pause under little shadow. Perhaps most of them choose the big Banyan tree near the Tarash Building for repairing their rickshaw and a tea break.
Thanks to the Almighty for blessing the nature with some rainfall this month. Soon the advent of scorching summer will not only bring hot waves, but watermelons, wood-apple (in Bangla its called Bell), papaya etc. also.
Mosquito menace has again become a part of daily life of the Pabnites. The elected municipality members seem to be totally unaware of it. Roadside dust and debris cover sometimes cloths and even penetrates inside the room causing great irritation.
Schoolchildren are seen to be rejoiced with summer arrival. MalaiWallahs are now vending icecreams. Icecraem vans with ringing bell passing through the lanes in idle afternoon time is a common scene now.
This eventful month has concluded by the presentation of spiritually rich musical-evening by the countryside singers popularly known as Baul, who flocked in Pabna Bus Terminal, beside the Bypass on the 30th March at 9pm. A sincere effort sponsored by a well known ball point pen company.
Meanwhile the Bauls going to their new destinations,
We also bade good bye for this time.
