Introductory words

As usual the last December was a month of colourful occasions and celebrations. The Pabnites had good reasons to be happier than the previous years because a good late summer harvest, completion of digitalization of the old telephone system  and announcement of the surplus in the Municipality budget. But much to the dismay we missed Rafiqul Islam Bakul elected MP from Pabna an undaunted freedom fighter 

The Christian community in Pabna celebrated X-mas day on the 25th December and followed by the Muslim's  holy Eid-ul-fitr after a month long Ramzan in a festive mood. The train of festivities ended on the midnight between 31 st December and the 1:st January by a spectacular pyrotechnique in the night-sky of Pabna.

PCC was host to a Norwegian-family(Mr Oyvind Moller,Mrs Marianne Moller and their 19 year-old daughter Elena Moller.They are joining Pabna dot net as Photographer, PageMaker and Chronicledesigner.The family had the opportunity to meet the village folk and common people of Pabna.They enjoyed Rickshaw tour between Char Hemayetpur to Char Sadhupara.

Ruma-smriti Cricket Tournament final was held on the 8th January at Char Sadhupara.And on the premises of Edward College are taking place for the local League Tournament.

Holy Eid-ul-Fitr observed in Pabna on the 28th December
   The evening before Eid took an exuberant mood-pyrotechnics, though in small scale done by different communities filled the night sky,marketting at the last minute,homecoming passengar from Dhaka made the atmosphere at the city centre full of joy and thanks to the local administration-the bazar road was made one-way so wecould move at least more freely than previous year. And main road markets, club locals everywhere light decoration was subject of appraisal. 
 A number of new Eid day congregation places have contributed the minimizing the pressure on the remaining large places like Arifpur,Police parade ground,Kalabagan etc.The Kalabagan ground appears to be the best decorated Eidgah this year, according to an old Pabnite.

A private medical and dental college  is inaugurated on the 1st. December in Pabna.The administrative functions will be performed at the  Tarash Building.
*The holy Christmas was celebrated here in Pabna by the Christian community. The Ataikula Church had very good light decoration for the Christmas eve. 
*Harvard University Professor David C Christiani is now visiting Pabna(7-8th Jan.).He will work on finding the reason for arsenic contamination in ground water.Pabna community clinic arrnaged a conference on Arsenic contamination on the 7th Jan.Mr.David attended this conference.

On going and coming events:

The Lilakirtan festival was held between 28th Dec-4th Jan at Banagram,Santhia.

Pabna Athletic Club arranged Eid Reunion at the Pabna Police Parade Ground on the 29th December. The entire function was dedicated to the memory of Mr.Rafiqul Islam Bakul MP.

The Pabna Recitation Forum arranged recitation  evening on the eve of the 31st December 2000.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will come to Ishurdi-Paksey on the 13th Jan. for inaugaration of Export Processing Zone and the Padma Bridge Construction.

Floral Exhibition(in memory of Mr.Abu Zafar):23-26th January, at Banamali Town Hall premise.

The by-election of Pabna-5 constituency will be held on the Monday the 5th February.
Pabna-5 constituency comprises Pabna Municipal area also.

Victory day observed,16th December
Young Pabnites are showing their performance on the year 2000's Victory day at the Pabna Stadium. Different organizations arranged symposium, colorful rainbow rallies on the main road,friendly cricket match on this day.

Sports News(in very brief)

On the 5th January a friendly cricket match was held between the Pabna Press Club Members-the President's team and the Secretary's team and the President's team won for 3 wickets.The match was held on the Edward field.

A Pabna based cement manufacturing factory sponsored cricket tournament in December at the Pabna Government  Edward University College field. The entire tournament was live telecasted for the local Pabnites via Pabna Cable TV Network.Neemtala club won the championship.

In Ruma Smriti Cricket Tournament the Char Sadhupara Black-11 won against the Red-11 team.

A multinational beverage company will be sponsoring 1st division Cricket Tournament from the 14th.January at Edward field.

Obituary: Educationist Mr.Nirmal Kumar Majumdar(59),popularly known as Shankar Master of Sujanagar Pilot High School died of heart attack at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on the 2nd Jan.. He was the Headmaster of the school and was regarded as a man of principle.
