Unfortunately literacy rate in this district is low(26.8%,officially 42.6%). Poverty stricken background of the North Bengal, poor industrialization, lack of initiatives to educate people and unequal sharing of resources can be considered as  the reasons lying behind  this phenomenon of low rate of literacy.
