Born on 1st September 1959 at Pabna (only son of Adv. Amjad Hussain, Ex-MP & Prof. Jannatul Ferdous, Ex-MP); attended Pabna Liakat Nazir High School (renamed later as Selim Nazir High School) in class Infant to II (1964-1966) and Pabna Zilla School in class III to VII (1967-72).

Then attended Rajshahi Cadet College and passed SSC in 1976 with 3rd Position and HSC in 1978 with star marks. Completed his Pre-Sea Marine Engineering in the Marine Academy, Chittagong (1978-82) and graduated with 1st Class – 2nd position. Commenced sea-career in Bangladesh Shipping Corporation as a Cadet Engineer in 1980 and rose to Chief Engineer of a Ship in 1991. Meanwhile he achieved his ‘Certificate Competency as Class 1 Marine Engineer’ from UK in 1989.

He had been suspended from his service (Chief Engineer, Marine Academy) in Oct 2003 for publication of his first book ‘Ekattorer Prometheus’ (please find details of his publications below). Anyway, he could continue the service upon a stay order from High Court. But due to adverse, humiliating and unavoidable circumstances he had to resign ultimately and left the Academy in July 2005. At the same time his wife also had to resign from the post of Head Mistress (1993-2005) of the Marine Academy KG School.

Glimpse of his distinctive contributions to the Marine Academy, Chittagong:

·      Leading role in formulation and preparation of  the Quality Manual (ISO 9001:2000) for the Marine Academy in line with the IMO’s STCW95 Convention;

·      Leading role in preparation of the new syllabus and curriculum of the marine engineering discipline in line with the IMO’s STCW95 Convention;

·      Arrangement of two IMO-Bangladesh Joint Programme in the Academy in 2001 & in 2004;

·      Transforming the TWO years BMS Degree course under the National University into THREE years one; however without changing the existing training structure i.e. Cadets pass-out after 2 years and the 1st year at sea is the 3rd year of the BMS course.

·      Initiating the enhancement of the Academy into a Maritime University in accordance with his MSc thesis (dissertation) titled ‘A proposal for establishment of a Maritime University in Bangladesh’.

Now, Engr. Sajid, along with other three mates, has launched MAS Maritime Academy in September 2006. He is working there as its Principal and MD. This new Academy has been established with the membership of the GlobalMET (Global Maritime Education and Training Association – based in Australia). It is now offering Cadets’ Pre-Sea Orientation Course in Nautical Science (6 months at shore + 36 months at sea) and in Marine Engineering (6 months at shore + 24 months at sea + 6 months workshop) disciplines.
He is an amateur writer in the areas of shipping, sealife, IT, science and technology and science fiction stories for various leading journals of Bangladesh. His publications include 7 books, 15 research & technical papers, and over 175 features. Two of his research papers have been qualified and posted in the IMarEST website.
