9th National Assembly Election 2008, 
in Pabna District,Bangladesh

 

 

Pabna district(or zila) comprises of nine administrative units called Thana or Upazila.A total of six parliamentarians  represent a total population about 2.1 millions in the  Pabna District! Among them, five are directly elected by the people, they happened to be all male in the last 2001,1996 and 1991 election. And one female member for this district was selected according to the constitution.

* Professor Abu Said(Pabna-1) and Mr. Wazi Uddin Khan(Pabna-5) did not get party nomination this time.

The 1st October 2001 election was apparently fair and neutral   except violance at 2 centers in Sujqanagar and 2 centers in Pabna Sadar.

*Mr.Rafiqul Islam Bakul from Bangladesh Nationalist Party(BNP) was the MP in this constituency.
On the 10th Nov.2000,Mr.Bakul died in a road mishap and  
this seat became vacant and after a by-election in Feb.2001 Mr.Kadri was elected.
