Chatmohar Shahi Masjid

 Chatmohar is one of nine Thanas in Pabna district. The Chatmohar town(24n13,89e18) is situated on the south bank of the once navigable Baral river. It is about 25km NE of Ishurdi and an important rail station between Ishurdi-Dhaka railroad. Very old commercial locality, having the history back from the pre-Muslim age. Today good road communication between Chatmohar and other thanas like Ishurdi,Pabna Sadr,Faridpur thana,Atghoria and Bhangura exists. 

 



Masum Khan Kabuli constructed this mosque 
in 1581 AD 

 

Mr. Blochman,the author of the Ayne Akbari made the translation of Persian inscription of the black epitaph found on the entrance of the mosque. On the other side of this epitaf,there are drawings of Hindu god Shiva,Bishnu and Brahma which  

Here is the English translation:

"This lofty mosque was built during the time of the Great Sultan, the chief of Sayyiads,Abdul Fath Muhammad Macum Khan may God perpetuate his kingdom for ever,O Lord thou who remained, by the high and exalted Khan, Khan Muhammad, son of Tui Muhammad Khan Quaqshal in the year 989 A.H."

This inscription on black stone is now preserved in the Barendra Research Museum,Rajshahi.

 

 

The mosque is constructed of red zafri  bricks.

Approximate Inside Dimensions:
Length 51feet,Width 21feet,Height 45feet

"This fact proves that the rebels headed by Ma'sum Khan had at this period,established a firm hold over the tract comprising the south-eastern part of Pabna district which was intersected by a 'labyringth of channels formed by the lower Karotoya and the then mighty Atrai river and the boundless swamp called the chalan Bil."(p.259-260,vol IV,Inscription of Bengal-by Shamsuddin Ahmed)
